I purchased a $50.00 Stitched bag of mint nickels earlier today. After a few minutes I can across this gem

I know what you have. You have an error called a Dropped Letter. It's a rare type of Struck Through error, caused by a grease plug falling out of the crevices of the die. When this happens, it can land on the coin and get struck into the surfaces. Awesome find! Good for you man! http://www.numismaster.com/ta/numis...ticleId=5974

You're very welcome. It's definitely a keeper, and holds a good premium over face value. It's your lucky day. Make sure to put it in a 2x2 coin flip and label it.

It does appear to struck through a dropped letter. I don't know what premium that may command as an error.

However, I don't think that premium justifies submitting it to a TPG. If you want to sell it, sell it raw.

It would command a good premium, but it wouldn't be worth sending it in to a TPG. You'll be better off keeping it raw, in a 2x2 coin flip. Although, it's up to you.

Cool thanks for the advice I'll drop it in a 2x2 now I have a batch I recently purchased. Not too sure if I'm gonna dump it now. Maybe when they become a hot commodity. I've never heard of this error before now. Which makes me want to hold on to it hoping it'll attract higher prices. What would you guess it's worth?

Everyone is correct. Nice find. But what does a dropped letter look like?

The fall out of a die that is fill with debris that prevent the letter from showing. Not just grease, but other things that can fill a device or devices. The can make a normal letter or a mirrored letter depending on what direction they land on the coin before the strike. When struck the devices will be seen incuse on the coin.
