The date doesn't look right. The 3 is too thin and the loops are too big etc. Hard to say for sure based on the pic, but its probably fake.

Foreign coins are not my thing so I really don't know enough to say it's legit or not but if it is counterfeit it would have to be an older fake considering it was passed from my father's uncle to him, then from my father to me when he passed.

a counterfeit - a poor one at that.
Flip it in the air and let it drop to the ground and see what " metallic " sound the coin makes.

Definitely a fake. As pointed out by Echidna the 3 isn't right and the other date letters look dodgy too. The p in imp appears to be at the wrong angle(bent back).Looks like a cast copy.
