Hi I wanted to get your thoughts on my new purchase.A 1925 standing liberty. I say "real" purchase because I paid more then $10.00 for all five coins I also bought: -1942 Mercury dime-1942 walking liberty -1936 Buffalo nickel-1943 steel penny ( that looks very bizare, light gold ) What grade would this one be?

Ouch. Sorry, you paid too much. For the quarter, $3.50, Walker $5.50-6.50 depending on condition, common buff and steelie, about 25 cents if in high grades. You'll learn, takes time. You may want to run further purchases through here for input before you buy.

Thanks CrazyB0, I figured $2.50 per coin wasnt too bad. I really just liked them:) Is the most important thing the year? Condition? Amount minted? Probably all of the above, but eventually wont all older coins in somewhat good condition increase in value? I did just buy the 2018 Red Book to help coach me. I also picked up 18 wheat cents from the 30s from our local coin/silver shop that probably have zero value but look like they have rainbow colors on them..i guess I'm a sucker for rainbows and shiny stuff.lol

If you are saying 'I say "real" purchase because I paid more then $10.00 for all five coins I also bought:' Then you did ok. I don't think he is saying he paid more than $10 for the quarter, Crazy. I think he is saying he paid more than ten for the whole lot. For lower grade Standing Liberty quarters, when purchasing in bulk, you should expect to pay about $6-$7 per coin.

A good start is reading the reference books, and the Red Book will help with your educations, just bear in mind that the prices in the Red Book do not reflect reality, so ignore them.

Quote: Ouch. Sorry, you paid too much. How is that the first thing that comes to mind because he may have paid something like a quarter over melt? Things need to be kept in perspective more on coin forums. There's really not a reason to tell someone they messed up or over paid over a couple cents at best on a purchase for a group of coins that costs less than a movie ticket. The only way to have messed up at that price is to have bought fakes. Quote: Is the most important thing the year? Condition? Date and mint mark is a big factor is is the grade of the coin when talking about value.

The 1925 quarter grades about vg10. In that grade it is worth about $8. It is definitely worth more than the silver melt value that the earlier poster was quoting. If you paid $10 for the 5 coins as you stated, the melt value of the coins is about 11x-12x face value for the silver coins, so that is worth about $10 just in silver. Since the other coins aren't pictured, we can assume that they are worth melt. The value of the quarter at vg10 is more than 2x melt. That alone means that the coins you bought are worth more that you paid. Good job on your first purchase.

Can I post pictures of my 4 other coins? If so, do I edit and add them to my original post or post them in the reply?
