1882 Liberty Head $5 Gold Coin - Don't hold anything back. Judgement day. Completely unaware of their (Liberty Heads) existence until "settling" on this coin because store was out of what I came for and it's not fun getting all excited and coming home empty handed. It's not fun making a stupid decision either. The sting of a stupid decision lasts longer than the thrill of new shiny. NOTE: Again I am not good at taking pics of gold coins. Coin looks better in every regard "in hand" but that's beside the point. Assistance politely requested in regards to grade and/or value. Thoughts, opinions, and feelings all welcomed. Any insight on the market for this type is appreciated as I am ignorant on the topic.

Coin shows signs of light circulation. Lighting in photo makes it hard to tell if it was cleaned. I don't see any big red flags that it is not genuine. AU-58 is where I'm at on it.

AU-58 sounds right. Very attractive example.

That was my impression as well before seeing your post IndianGoldEagle. I think that whatever is trapped between the stars and rim just adds to it looking natural. I like it very much. Who wouldn't? AU-58 here too.

AU-58.
GrapeCollects - The NGC/PCGS price guides often list prices that are too high. Note how the "auction realized" prices are lower than the price guide estimate.

I agree with the light wear, although it does seem to have a lot of bag marks. Here in Canada my LCS would sell that for little more than melt, but perhaps that is just the local market. It is not a rare year.

Hmm. AU 55, can't tell if it has or hasn't been cleaned. It is worth about $290 I would say.

Awesome. I'm pleasantly surprised because thought it below AU. I have opportunity to purchase several more near spot that look like this one or better; none worse for sure. Maybe I should jump on them!?

Maybe you should spend some time w/ PGCS OnLine Photograde and a big monitor first...
