I have had this 1991 D Kennedy half for years in a sock drawer. The reason I kept it is because it looked a little different than the rest, actually I've never held one like it. It almost looks like chrome but yet it has not been plated. I can find no contact marks or die scratches to speak of on either obverse or reverse. It hasn't been on a polishing wheel as the devises would have shown that.I've heard knowledgeable people talk about early die stage. Could this be one of the first Kennedys minted that year with fresh die?

IMHO, not a fresh die but an earlier die state. Keep if you like but for me it would be a spender.

A fresh die would produce a fully struck coin with no signs of die wear what so ever (if everything is set up right) on the press. I am sure a pro can say it better than I just did .

If it were a 1982 or 83, I would save it. But it looks like just a nice half dollar. (Make a gift to a close relative. That might start them on the road to collecting? Put it in a 2X2?

Mr. Coop, I will put this in a 2x2 and hopefully my grandson will get the bug for coins.
