*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***

Hello folks!
This coin is the 70 S DDO but it's only the date and mint mark. I've checked wexler, PCGS, NGC etc. Has anuone seen this before?
Thank you!

1968-1971, especially the 1969 and 70s were notorious for MD. In some cases it's harder to find a coin WITHOUT MD than with it!

Note the clues:
1. The devices are not enlarged, they are reduced in size.
2. The area in question is flat, shelf like, the contour of those devices are not there. It was when the coin was struck, now it is gonne because of the damage the coin received after the strike.
3. The date and the mint mark area are affected the same. The die and the mint mark for that year are two different events. The dies were created first, then the mint mark punch is added to the die later. So the chances of having the same doubling on date and mint mark just doesn't happen. On on MD does this happen. The coin is not a collectable. Spendable or save for copper melt.

Side point: Even on doubled dies Machine Doubling happens on them also. To me it ruins the value of a doubled die with MD. But the graders act like they are a normal event from the mint. They do not plus or minus them on the grading. But true collectors will not even consider them. (So don't buy a slab that has Machine Doubling on it. Why? To buyers, they steer clear of them)

It's all Machine Doubling unfortunately. It's a worthless form of doubling. http://www.error-ref.com/machine-doubling/

Value aside, if YOU like it, keep it! Very good example of Machine Doubling.

klinks22, welcome to the CCF! It's already been said it's MD, so no need to state the obvious! To answer about the small date over large, you don't have one. You may be thinking of the 1960 version which that error exists. The 1970 over date does not.
