I am helping an elderly (83 year old) catalog his collection and he asked me today to start photographing his collection. When he opened his safes (7 large safes in a vault room in his home) I was stunned with just a small portion of the collection. I will go back and over and in the next few months build his catalog. I thought you might want to see some better pictures: Image: 1830obv.jpg93.48 KB Image: 1830rev.jpg93.32 KB Regards, afernbaugh Edited by afernbaugh 07/15/2008 10:42 am

A little hard to tell, but it looks like O-101, R.1 from the photos. Overton/Parsley lists best known condition as MS-65. This one looks pretty close. Can't wait for better photos, as they will mean the difference between a beater and a decent used car.

I know little about this series but I have never seen a finer example. There are very minor contact marks on the cheek and original luster all over. Absolutely no signs of wear and it is a great strike. I'll get better pictures very soon. BTW it is raw.

That's probably among the most gorgeous coins I have seen for it's age.

You people wanting to 'bid' on this coin do realize that you could potentially be talking thousand of dollars, right?

Afernbauf, thanks for sharing. That coin is almost pornographic.

That thing is a monster. I don't think it matters what variety it is, this will probably be close to top pop in any category. I'm also thinking the cheek marks may just bee the photo remnants. Those fields are amazing. Definitely looking forward to more pics! I'm sure afernbaugh will let us all know if this gentleman decides to liquidate. At this point he is just helping to catalogue. This thread will not be a "I have dibs" thread, so let's just stop the offers to buy now and enjoy the slideshow as it arrives.....

The funny thing is that it looks absolutely original in the photo. That's strange to say about a 178 year old silver coin.

I agree tights, but the notion that we should let down our guard and abandon complete due diligence even in an 'obvious' instance isn't in my nature. I cannot wait for more pictures of this or any other coin in the collection. Quote: I'm sure afernbaugh will let us all know if this gentleman decides to liquidate. I don't think we'll find too many people who wouldn't be happy to own that beauty.
