This is the next installment of my cataloging adventure for my friend. I apologize in advance for the photography. I am trying to capture photos through the Capital holder Lucite and it is extremely difficult to light properly. Some of the apparent scratches are actually in the holder and not the coins. I also included a picture of the old envelope that once held the half dollar. It gives some provenance and attribution information. The Col. Green mentioned on the envelope is, I believe, Hattie Greens son. Mrs. Green, of course, is rather famous for her hoard of 1913 V nickels. Enjoy! Wow, that is a really nice set. The coins seem to be problem-free (I'm assuming the obverse scratches are on the holder) and the dollar and half seem pretty well matched. The Half Dime might be a technical grade match for the larger coins but the weak reverse detail reduces the eye appeal a little bit. I'd still love to have it in my collection! The label for the half dollar is extremely cool and keeping that document with the coin can only add to the value. In today's market I think you can easily hang two more zeros on that $50 price tag. Thanks for sharing!

That's funny you mention the Greens, I was just reading up on the V nickels. What I read was Colonel E.H.R Green had originally owned the 1913 nickels who was the son of the "Witch of Wall Street". Maybe you mentor has one of those in storage too!

Now those are some very nice coins! How long did it take your friend to amass his collection?

He is still collecting or hoarding to hear him tell it. He has been collecting 0ver 60 years. He is still quite active and still ( at 83 years) rides his Road King Harley on nice weekend mornings.

Very nice. I'm proud to own just one of those coins. That collection is definitely hard to come by.

Very nice. The half dollar--O-121a--is an R.5. 31-80 known. It's always exciting to see a coin in better condition than the one pictured in Overton, and even with the cleanings, that's a very impressive set.

No, he hasn't cleaned any coins; he is a real collector. I don't know the value of this set and it doesn't matter to him.
