No experience with these. Just started looking at nickels, what's going on here. About 50% of the edge is copper looking.

I don't think it's any error. It looks like environmental damage to me (staining).

I guess my question is, is this some kind of bad alloy mix. I understand the mottled patterning but a decent amount of the coin is copper colored. You saying sitting in soda did this? Obviously it's had some circulation, but eaten away by chemicals would still leave that much detail? It's almost full steps lol. I'll try some more shots later when home.

Forget it. Use your imagination. It could be anything, pick something. Unless that coin was found at a crime scene and taken to the FBI at Quantico for chemical analysis.... like I said, forget it.
