Not an old coin, but a very nice one! 1998 F Germany 10 Deutsche Mark NCLT proof celebrating 50 years of the DEM. 0.925 AR, 32.5mm, 15.5 grams (.5057 ASW) Reverse features the designs of previous circulating DM coins. 1750 Liard of the Prince-Bishopric of Liege (Austrian Netherlands) Prince-Bishop Johann Theodor von Bayern. 23mm, 3 grams copper. A great example of what happened when they gave a rather impious and somewhat eccentric prince-bishop the right to mint his own coins...and mint he did, striking large quantities of junk silver and copper coins which were grossly underweight and had engraving and quality ranging from mediocre to laughably bad. The junk coinage was at one point prevalent enough in commerce (see Mr. Gresham's law) that it threatened to bankrupt the entire Austrian Netherlands as trading partners got tired of being (literally) short-changed and proper coinage was hoarded, melted and debased.
