NumisEd, many of the "purists" on this site probably wouldn't go for a details coin but I have to say that is a great Barber Half! Considering how worn most examples are, In my opinion to have anything with that much crisp detail is desirable. Congrats!

The cheapest Proof Barber Half I have seen is on ebay in PR55 condition. But that coin looks much more banged up then the one I bid on, and is more expensive too.
I think the Moral of the Story is that if you are looking for proof Barber coinage and don't want to spend a lot of money, you have to consider Details coins. That doesn't mean every coin is acceptable. You just have to access its eye appeal and determine if the blemish is a minor or major issue to you.

OK! just won 3 coins on ebay just now.. a 1950, 1952, and a 1953. (I am waiting on the 1951 to arrive in the mail.) Oh yeah! they are all proof quarters.
In addition I also bought a 1942 Proof quarter as well This one is slabbed by PCGS pr with details (a small scratch on obverse) I got this one for only $39.00. all in all I only paid just a hair over $150.00 for all 4 proof coins..

here is the '42:

Yes I am. once the coins come in, I'll have proof quarters from 1942 to date. I'm working backwards from 1942 now..

I'm actually assembling a modern U.S. proof coin set. I have all the Ike dollars proofs, working the the Kennedy half dollars and Washington quarters now, then I'll go for the Roosevelt dimes proofs. I also have all the proof Jefferson nickels, then last, it will be the Lincoln Cent proofs

Wow! I applaud you can do that - that's more than I make in a month from Gov't disability . It took me almost 2 years to complete the Dansco Walkers album with that but I did do it - Best of luck!!!

thanks Roth, I also get a monthly VA disability check. I'm rated at 90% currently with 1 more claim in the works.. If it weren't for the VA, I probably would not be able to afford it either.. This hobby that the VA now allows me to afford is great therapy for me..

Got my 1916 Barber quarter in the mailbox today, obtained from Gerry. Love the clean look of it. The coin will fit nicely with the other quarters I have so far.

That's a great quarter ED! I love Barbers that are highly detailed and this one certainly fills the bill. Congrats!
