Kiwi add ons Complete collection of NZ coins 1933 - 1965 excusing a few rarities. Plus these two sets - Green and Blue (High Grades). I liberated them as the plastic was decaying  Green set - selected coins, higher than average  Blue set - Proofs, shiny and nice. These were moved to high quality flips (Safflips - American) as the plastic was rotting on the wrappers. Plus I already have nice unopened sets of both grades.   More crowns - 1949 Silver one in AU and 2 UNC 1953s, one in its original perspex case (Top removed to show the coin). And this foundation medal of my coin club from 1966!   The medal in copper shows the One Tree Hill monument and Tree in Auckland (U2 did a song about it). The tree was cut down by a crazed activist in 1995. All in all this lot cost me under $100 with nearly $300 worth of silver alone. |

I love the Gulden! Paul's Madonna thaler is a truly beautiful example of the type and in excellent condition. Here is something a bit on the other end of the spectrum -- another imitation George III halfpenny to join my increasingly-large collection of Georges. This one was struck by probably the most deteriorated dies I've ever seen for one of these, and I've seen a fair few of them over the years. The dies were heavily rusted, and the reverse die exhibits die rust/spalling, wherein layers of the die had broken off or peeled off like a biscuit, leaving a much lighter strike. It's also dented, possibly a countermark or mark to indicate its non-Regal origins (in case being over 50% underweight wasn't immediately obvious.) It's a nice, glossy medium-dark brown in hand, but I turned the lighting up to try to finesse the details out. I love the Gulden! Thanks! Although I wished I had noticed the hairlines before I bought the coin and arrived home. Next time, I definitely need to bring a more powerful loupe when I go to a coin show. It is hard to notice anything on the fields of a coin through a layer of Mylar. |
