Hi. First, let me say, I love some of the responses to questions you are asked.

Next, why is it called double "die" instead of "dye"? An answer woild so help my retention.

Okay so I ran across this penny. It is a 1972, no mint mark (Philadelphia?), that is thicker than other pennies and looks to have a double rim? Please forgive me if I used the wrong terminology. It also appears to be double died (?) on all numbering and lettering on the obverse. I'm not getting my hopes up because that is how my luck runs.

Could anyone give an opinion please?

Thank you.

To the CCF.

Would you please post pictures of both Obverse and Reverse.
Not everyone can open a link.
Also to answer your question (it is called doubled die) a Die is an
engraved steel rod that is used in the minting of the coins.
Dye is what is used to add colour such as red dye or yellow dye.
If you go to the sidebar near the top, click on glossary and you
will find most of the terminology there.

Looks like a regular 1972 cent to me worth exactly $0.01. In the future, pictures that are less blurry would be helpful to try to see what you are asking about in case we are overlooking something.

die: a device for cutting or molding metal into a particular shape. It's from Middle English: from Old French de, from Latin datum 'something given or played,' neuter past participle of dare

Thanx everyone for the advice and being so kind. Looks like I'll have to break out the digital camera. Give me some time.
