Hi everyone, I am totally stumped when it comes to IDing this bronze ancient. The Reverse has the familiar Roman "SC" within a wreath, but it appears rather crude. Moreover, the bust on the obverse is quite odd, crude, and possibly double struck.

What do you think? Is it a barbarous piece? Thanks!

Excellent find!

It's not technically barbarous because it can be firmly attributed. It is an issue of the free city of Hatra from about the first century until it was sacked by the Sassanians in 241. It copies the SC reverse of Antioch, but there is an eagle below it... either the eagle is upside down, or the SC is. Rather than an emperor, the portrait is the ancient Mesopotamian sun god Shamash. These are supposed to have a Syriac legend, but yours looks to be Greek. I assume it is struck over some other provincial.

Good job snagging this one - these are rare coins!
