Just arrived! This is the copper variety of the official coronation medal of George II by John Croker. I have been wanting one of these for a long time. Apparently, the medal was distributed at public expense during the coronation ceremony and was issued in gold, silver, and copper. Evidently, this medal in the copper variety is much rarer than the silver version. The Latin motto on the reverse, VOLENTES PER POPULOS (by a willing people), was chosen specifically to indicate a peaceful succession. The peaceful crowning of a second Hanoverian monarch, in direct succession from the first, indicated the growing solidity of the new royal house in Great Britain.

I really like this type of stuff. The strike appears to be first-rate.

Absolutly stunning, are you considering getting it slabbed? Looks to be a worthy venture.

GrapeCollects: Thank you. Honestly I have never considered getting a coin/medal slabbed? Do you think I should with this one? I'm not sure how the process works or how much it costs.
