I don't think it's ever been currency so what is it and is it worth anything?

It purports to be a very valuable coin, but fakes abound. I cannot give any solid advice about it's authenticity.

Quote:
Ron Guth: The 1694 "New England" Elephant Token is an extremely rare coin with only three examples known. Planchet weights vary considerably from a thin planchet of 132.8 grains (the Kendall example) to 240.9 grains (the Roper example); what this signifies is unknown. The finest example is the Roper example, last seen on the market in 1983 but since graded PCGS AU58. Auction appearances of this variant are infrequent, sometimes spanning decades before an example shows up on the market.

Ok so I read some threads here if it's a restrike I'd need to figure out whether it's modern or antique.
If anyone has any experience opinions please do comment so I know something for certain.

Right out of The Red Book is all I can point you to.

I don't see a beaded border or one with denticles near the rim.
The amount of wear would indicate it never had any.
There are no paw-like feet on this pachyderm like on the originals.

The R in PRESERVE is pretty crude compared to the much better ones on the three examples in the book. I can't say if it's a "fake" from many years ago or a more recent one from 1950 to present, but I would expect it to be not a genuine colonial issue. I am not 100% sure, but maybe 99%. Looks like a fun pc to have but to me that's about all.

NO WAY! $100,000+? It's real I'm certain of it now. What should I do? To know for sure? Is there anyone who would be considered an expert?

There is a coin show later this week in Concord, NC running from October 5th to the 7th. Details can be found in this thread: http://goccf.com/t/329464

You might be able to find a dealer that knows more about these or would be willing to submit this with their next batch to NGC or PCGS for a fee.
