I just purchased this graded 09-S cent. It's my first graded coin purchase, so I'm a little enamored by it, but I really want to put it in my Dansco album with my other Lincolns. I've read around here differing people's opinion on cracking coins out of slabs, but what would y'all recommend doing with the slab? Do you keep the paper with the grade and certification number? Or toss the whole thing?

Go ahead and crack it out! I cracked out my 09- s, s-vdb and 14-D to put in my album.

I agree - its only a VG10 so why not crack it out. Keep the NGC grade tag somehow if you want. In an envelope or taped/glued to a post card so you don't lose it then keep it in a drawer or somewhere you won't lose it

You can crack it if you want, just know that if you decide to sell you will have to get it regraded or leave a lot of money on the table.
As for the label and slab, it's completely meaningless once it's cracked. You can send the label back to NGC if you want to help keep the population reports more accurate or keep it if you want, but it won't matter if you go to sell it

Tape it to the back flap of the album you put it in.

Agree with Basebal21, might as well toss the plastic and insert. Do what you like, knowing that, if you crack it, you are throwing away a grading fee that you have effectively already paid for. To get it back in a top TPG holder like this will cost you a good chunk if you decide to sell it for any reason.

Done with the slab in your case - follow your collecting spirit and place that coin in your album. A compromise that has worked for many of us ... save the NCG grade certification and tape it to the inside of the last page of your folder. That is truly a worthless certification whenever these coins come up for sale - but a lovely reminder for you and your heirs of the TPG opinion.
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art

VG10 key date that would not cost that much to have slabbed again? Yep....crack it out.
SAVE the insert after taking good pictures (which you have done).

Take it out of the plastic. And don't bother keeping the TPGS tag since once out of the plastic, no one would know if that is the same coin so why keep that tag.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. Over the weekend, I cracked out the coin and put it in my Dansco album. After looking at the slab, I figured it would be difficult to crack....boy was I right. I guess that's a good thing though. I did tape the TPG tag on the back inside cover of the album. Now all I lack is the 09-S vdb, 14-D and 22 no D!
