I found one that appears to have a 1 under the 2, not to mention it doesn't appear to be 40 percent silver. It looks like a normal 1941 or type 1 1942.

I have never heard of an Overdate for this Nickel. Although, there's type 1 and 2 Nickel reverses. http://www.PCGScoinfacts.com/coin/detail/4016

42-P was made in both nickel and silver versions. Pic of the reverse would help. Please crop and orientate you pictures to make them more "viewable".

Thanks for the pics. Your coin is a 1942-P type 2 .... this is the silver version from that year.

I think what you are seeing may be die scratches or post mint damage ( PMD).

Others may have a different opinion.

Did a little editing on the date.
I can't see how there is possibly a 1 under the 2.

What I'm talking about is a straight line directly in the middle of where the 2 is curved at top going down and disappearing behind bottom bar of the bottom of the 2. its raised when you look at it from the side. It also on the back where the mint mark would be normally is a faint raised s like the 41 big s had. Does it look like a 40 percent silver coin to anyone else?

The big "P" above the Dome denotes that it was made in Philadelphia and is about 30% silver.

It is a common silver wartime alloy nickel.

I now think the stuff you are seeing around the date is post mint damage.

If a 42/41 nickel overdate was to have surfaced it would have been discovered a long time ago.
