Anyone Heard Of A 1942/1 5c Type 2, Poss Transitional Error If It Is Real?

I think what you are seeing may be die scratches or post mint damage ( PMD). Others may have a different opinion. Report this Post to the Staff

Lex26744 New Member United States 4 Posts	Posted 10/12/2018 12:58 am What I'm talking about is a straight line directly in the middle of where the 2 is curved at top going down and disappearing behind bottom bar of the bottom of the 2. its raised when you look at it from the side. It also on the back where the mint mark would be normally is a faint raised s like the 41 big s had. Does it look like a 40 percent silver coin to anyone else? Report this Post to the Staff
westernsky Pillar of the Community United States 7632 Posts	Posted 10/12/2018 01:32 am The big "P" above the Dome denotes that it was made in Philadelphia and is about 30% silver. It is a common silver wartime alloy nickel. I now think the stuff you are seeing around the date is post mint damage. If a 42/41 nickel overdate was to have surfaced it would have been discovered a long time ago. Report this Post to the Staff
