Hi All

I posted this about 4 years ago when I first received it when we were exchanging money for our USA trip, but never got a response on the forum. Was just cleaning out my off and found it again, so thought I would ask the question again in this section of the forum.

Is this $1 note worth anything more with the smudges...or just worth face value?

Almost looks like a solvent smear.

I would think it would be worth a few dollars over face value.

IMO it wouldn't be worth your time to try to sell it but you could certainly give it a shot. I'd probably just stick it in a sleeve and keep it as a minor error note.

It's interesting that the directions of the smears create a circle, roughly. I don't know if that means anything or not, just an observation.

I do not believe it is significant enough to deserve a premium.

Smudges are not addressed in my error guide, smears yes but smudges no.

I tried it myself with both lacquer thinner and acetone on a 2013 $1 and it smudged a little. Next I'll try my experiment with mineral spirits....since it's oil based, I expect more smudging.

It's a spender in my view.

The fact that the smudges go in different directions and
that there is a smudge mark on the numbers leans toward
something has happened after it left the printer, either
intentional or not.
It would be hard to prove it happened during the printing process.
