I am not sure where to post this so please move it if it is in the wrong place.
I made an auction purchase of this 1968 multi mint set See Picture # 1 and Picture # 2 is what they sent to me. You can't see them in the picture but the proof coins are of varing quality with finger prints and debris on some of them. I got it very inexpensive but still feel ripped off. This is from a online coin dealer not an individual. I did not list the name of the dealer because I don't know if it is allowed but PM me if you want to know.

So what do you think? Honest mistake?

I have already demanded they send RMA and refund my money.

In the images you posted I see nothing that you described, so I can't provide the validation you seek.
Also, we have nothing to compare to, as you posted no images of what the seller provided.

Maybe post a close up on just a few of the worst coins...
Rest in Peace

If I remember correctly 1968 mint sets weren't of the best quality and because you paid so little for them he probably sent you the worst of the bad or that's all he had left . If you really don't like them send them back for refund or credit . I don't know of any online dealer that doesn't offer returns .

I would not be so concerned about the 10-coin mint set. Their quality is pretty uniform -- bad -- across the board.

The proof set is a whole different story though. If they pictured the black holdered "from the mint" proof set in the auction listing but sent you the translucent "after-market" proof set you didn't get what was offered. I'd ask for a refund or the correct product.

What was the auction site and item number?

As far as being "demanding" I wouldn't go there. Maybe it was an honest mistake in putting the shipment together. Most sellers will do the right thing when a mistake is made. Give the seller a chance to make it right.

Thanks for the replies. When I am upset I find input from others does help me to see in more light.

Yes the proof set is the whole problem. I would not have bid on a proof set that has already been removed from the original mint holder. The 10 coin set is fine and is what they pictured. I will wait and see how they handle it.

Thanks again.

Dealers will use stock photos and send out these sets without looking because they're inexpensive. This happened to me once. I complained and he told me to just throw them away and he'll send me replacements.

I'm a dealer, and I would not even think of posting a pic of a proof set in it's original packaging and then send a "made up" set. Which is probably the worst of the lot after they have cherry picked it. AS you said, just get the refund and leave the feedback.
