I'm thinking a piece of debri as there aren't any devices on the obverse in that area that would cause a clash

Check the column 6 and 6 where Abe sit. The 7 look like DDR. Get closer pic on that parts so we can check for you too.

On the column 6, that mark is incuse. (damaged)
