Hi everyone. I came across this 2 Centimes coin from Belgium. 1855 seems to be a rare year, but is it worth having this coin graded? Your opinions will be appreciated.
Book value about $900 in XF40.

It has an edge ding and some "gunk" in the fields. Europe is the only place that would have a market for scarce date Belgium coins, and they are not likely to pay a premium for slabbed coins.Plus, they would probably be fussy about the condition and perceive this as a problem coin, as I would too.

So in other words, don't waste your money slabbing.

I don't have anything to add to oriole's comments except that I see a couple edge dings.

Seriously though, I don't see the value in getting it slabbed, but would really enjoy hearing from some of our OUS brethren and sistren as to whether they also agree.

Between the yucky stuff on it, not being FDC, and the impending global trade wars, this is practically worth scrap copper value. Myself, I would literally swallow the coin, treat myself to several bottles of Chimay, and see where the coin might possibly emerge from afterwards:

Most of the gunk should come off with a bath in Acetone. No reason to get this one slabbed as fees are too high.

pretty much with the previous comments. I'd "clean" it up a bit with non-abrasive micro cloth to remove some of the 'gunk'; otherwise wouldn't touch it. Put it in a mylar holder or 2x2 and offer it for sale. Don't go to a pawn shop as you won't get the "best" value.
OR keep it and start yourself a collection of 2 centimes of Belgium.

I apologize for not answering your question about grading. I don't know the cost to grade scale but if the coin would grade Very Fine or better I would. From what's available on ebay right now you could do well to sell.
My 2 cents.

I'd say try acetone and then put it in a nice comfy 2x2.

Extremely nice coin regardless of value.
