I was wondering if anyone knew or can take a guess as to why some coins ( I am speaking of modern mostly) Sell for huge money on heritage and the exact same coin and grade from the same grading company will sell on ebay for fractions. For example 1965 Kennedy half with Cameo graded PCGS sp67 sells for 5k on Heritage and on ebay it sells for 150.00?

Doesn't make sense to me? Well thank you for taking the time to ponder this with me.

Do you have links for those coins at those prices? Just to make sure we're looking at the same coin/grade -- I couldn't find the Heritage example from a quick search though I don't doubt the ebay price.

I noticed that. I see raw common date UNC Morgans that go for around $50/60 on ebay go for hundreds on Heritage PLUS the buyers premium. I don't get it either.

Simple. If a coin is sold by a large, I need the money place, it will cost more. Sort of like when you buy something at Walmart or Macy's. Coins being sold at any place that needs money will have to charge more to make that money.

To an extent, people are paying for the lifetime guarantee that all respectable auction houses offer. Now why people on Heritage etc sometimes pay multiple times the ebay price... maybe it has to do with the number of people who go on looking for stuff to blow a couple grand on?

Conversely, I have noticed some types of coins can actually sell for a lot more on ebay than at an auction house.

Besides other potential differences, the ebay example is NGC and merely "cameo" while the Heritage one is PCGS "deep cameo". I believe NGC would use "ultra cameo" where PCGS uses "deep", and this generally carries a premium over just "cameo".

As mentioned the PCGS one is DCAM which carries a premium over CAM. PCGS also generally carries a premium over NGC and it can be especially true for moderns.

As for your initial question there is a lot that could be going into it such as when they were sold, what the populations at the time were ect.

ebay can also be a price race to the bottom sometimes on things when several are listed and people are trying to get theirs sold.
