I'll say MS66. I think it just falls short of FB designation.

An interesting die pairing with the obverse die cracked in the normal areas and polished maybe a couple of times. (The R in LIBERTY is really polished down). The reverse die looks fairly fresh. I have to wonder if the first reverse die failed as the result of a clash event.

Wow... that is a beauty!

I'm not tuned into Mercury dimes, but I think that 66 seems right. I noticed the die cracks too. However, what is the dark line below the chin ... that goes through the D & T ... and finally the neck?

Jackpot!

I think it made MS66-FB, light die crack around the tip of wing and @ 6 O'clock, maybe the B in Liberty? Not sure what the spot around motto.

The line from the bottom to the bust then through the motto is a large crack, not a contact mark.

This one has a bit of a story. In fact, PCGS graded this coin as MS 64 FB not once, not twice, but at least three times. It sold three times at Heritage; the two prior winners presumably had the same opinion has me, and they both sent it back to PCGS to be graded again. I've given up on trying to understand the whims of TGPs.

I had missed it when it was up for bid once, and kicked myself for not being a bit more aggressive. Imagine my surprise when it came up again a couple months later with a different number, then got it for less than I bid the first time.

I'm keeping it, of course, rather than trying to bet on upgraded plastic. I'll call it a 66 and accept my 80% discount, thankyouverymuch.
