Hey group.

I need an expert opinion on this coin. I've looked at many 1984's and never seen a raised triangle behind the ear. Thanks to all who have looked and or commented

It looks like either a plating issue or may have taken a hit and pushed the material. I'm no expert but it doesn't match the Doubled ear, the lobe is directly below the one above it. That's just my opinion.

The coin has a lot of raised areas on the plating. On just happened to be close to the Ear. If this were a doubled ear, we would expect to see it on several coins that year. It was just a fluke bubble or gas bubble. There was an issue when they first switched over to the plating zinc planchets. It seems they did not take into consideration the zinc dust before the coins were plated. It happens less often now. How did they fix it? They improved the rinse process. (Probably why a lot of the new coins still can be found with dried water spots on them?)
