Some things are clear. For one thing it is either no mint mark, an S or a D. For sure somewhere from 1909 to present for a date.

Based on the latest pic, I agree that the third digit is a 1, so the date is 191X. One nice thing about digital pictures is that you can blow them up to well beyond actual size and thus see some details better than with the coin in hand and just your eyes. How about one more try @lampant? Don't need tha magnifying glass probably, but keep the coin well lit and in focus. We might just be able to get you the complete date.

I'm going with 1913, I can't make out the presence of a mintmark.
