I would like to take photos of some extra coins I plan on sell at ebay. My daughter just inherited a Nikon D5200 camera along with two lenses.

1) Tamron 18-270 mm F/3.5-6.3
2) Nikon 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G

My uneducated questions are:

Can either of the above lenses be used to take close up of coins?

What additional accessories do I need?

Thank you for any and all help.

Either lens should be fine, the Nikon is my preference for clarity, but the Tamron zoom should work, too.

Unless you have a tripod, you'll need one, and a place to shoot your coins.

The camera is a good one, you don't need another. Get some photo software to load, unload, and crop.

Use side angle lighting, and correct temperature for lights. And a paper diffuser you make at home. You can get an LED/LCD bulb at a hardware store.

You may want to look into software that allows you to tether your camera to your computer. Unless something has changed I don't think this feature is part of the Nikon software package.

I have the same camera; there is no tethering option in the software that comes for free with the camera, only a paid package. However, DigicamControl is free and works perfectly fine with this camera.
For photo editing I use Gimp, also free.

Just FYI. I just set up an ebay seller account and posted some low value coin items. It turns out that there is a 10 item selling limit imposed on new sellers. I did not discover this until I tried to post an 11th item. So, though you receive 50 free listings/month, you don't get to take advantage of that for apparently 90 days. Quite frustrating.
