*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***I purchased this coin for about 100 times less than what I hopefully will sell it for. I'm not sure if I'm right but this proof die is the one that made a lot of business strike coins after retirement as a proof and that's why there are so many 1909 VDBs that are imposter proofs with week rims but look like proofs. These ones have lighter lathe lines and none of the die scratches but the same DDO and DDR. The same DDO proof die made the first none VDBs as well I think, they show no lathe lines but the same doubled die. Anyways I'll go further into depth another time. My coin is in an NGC holder so keep that in mind while looking at rims. I will try to get better pictures when I get the coin

You seem to be developing quite an expertise here. I would have nothing to add other than it's certainly a beautiful coin.

It's slabbed MS66 red in an old NGC holder, before this die pair was even hinted at.

Given that the die was used to produce business strikes and NGC certified it as MS, how are you going to get NGC or PCGS to certify it as proof?

Quote: Given that the die was used to produce business strikes and NGC certified it as MS, how are you going to get NGC or PCGS to certify it as proof? That is the major question. Although recently, one of the TPG mis-attributed a pattern 1916 SLQ as a regular issue, despite obvious indications, this is tough battle to fight. The OP may have a case, but the TPGs probably don't like to be proven wrong. Some Sellers put TPG MS coins on ebay, claiming they are proofs for crazy prices, but (in my opinion) it just makes them look silly and in general discredits them. However, if the OP is correct, GO FOR IT!

Wouldn't it be best to have a major auction house crack it out, and submit as a proof, in order to have the best chance?

I agree that there are hurdles to get over with this. I have to prove that this is a proof to a company that doesn't want to be wrong. An auction house might have a better chance but that's if they present it with the evidence I have, as this coin isn't a proof without me proving this die pair started its life as a proof die pair. It's really difficult because of the extremely low amount of the proofs around from this die and also the high amount of mint state coins from this die. I'm going to prove that it's a proof with the information I've gathered, a lot of which I haven't posted about yet. I'm really excited to see what happens with my research, thank you guys for the good wishes :)

So far, I'm not convinced your evidence proves this is a proof strike from a pair of dies that once produced proofs and has already been vetted as MS. Specifically, what delineates the shift from proof striking to regular issue striking - what exact features distinguish them?
