Can anyone tell me what this is? I called a coin dealer in my town who scoffed at me over the phone. Just trying to get an idea of what I have before I pursue anything further. Thank you!

@OP, first welcome to CCF. Second, it would be nice to also see a pic of the back of this coin. You have a nice amount of an off-center strike. This looks like a legit error to me and one worth saving, but others will have to weigh in on what sort of price tag something like this has.

To CCF! What you have here is not a misprint, since coins are struck from a die, from a steel rod. You have a struck Off Center Quarter I am pretty sure, although we'll need a reverse picture to confirm it. You can probably get 15 dollars at best for it, if it's indeed an Off Center Strike. I'm also sorry about that dealer scoffing at you. Do you know why he scoffed at you? Just curious.

You will get the best of the best treatment here. We will help you learn about anything you need help with. You can ask us any questions, and we will do are absolute best to answer them.

It is still a keeper, but not an off center strike. It is called a MAD (Mis-Aligned-Die) strike.

Coop is correct. It will still carry a nice premium, since it's a severe Misaligned Die Strike. You might be able to get 10 dollars for it.

Thank you everyone so much! I've had a habit of checking change for dates for a long time now and until recently I relied on coin operated laundry. I ran across this and kept it along with some others in my quarters.

A severely misaligned die, that's a nice find!

Probably worth a lot more than the 10 bucks said before.

to CCF. Nice find. Check ebay sold values for an idea on current value. I think $5-$30. Do not clean it in any way. Put it in a 2x2 holder. In future posts, please crop photos before posting. Thanks.
