@moose, your coin looks to be a pretty close match to a French 6 Deniers from the early 18th Century (1710 to 1712 AD). The key design element is the triangular-shaped double L monogram, which was used by Louis XIV. Here is a link to the relevant Numista page:

Nope on the date. I've had one of these in my collection for probably 30 years, with more detail than yours, but frustratingly, too much wear on the date to make it out (seems to be an issue with this type). My best guess is 1711 for mine.
