I found this in circulation - apart from it being a little beat up this coin has a planchett flaw peel - Should I get it graded thanks.

What you have is called a lamination error or flaw (my preferred term). The coin is a copper-nickel alloy and sometimes those metals don't mix properly and the resulting metal can separate in this way. It can appear in one small area, as in this case, or over the majority of the coin. In my experience, lamination flaws are fairly random.

Yours is neat, but I wouldn't expect much, if any, premium for it.

I think it is a coin that had a "fin" created during striking which subsequently folded over.

Nice find! It's a good example and it's a keeper.

A good example of what? Is it a Rim Fin or a lamination flaw? I said lamination because the "fault lines" extend farther into the coin and are most noticeable in the third pic. The "fin" is not alone and that suggests an alloy mixture problem to me.

It's not the right shape for a Rim Fin. IMO it's a Lam.
