Greetings!

Recently I have stumbled across a 1934 $5 Hawaii note and I am trying to gather more information about the bill and find out the value. I have recently been getting into coin and currency collecting and I think I may have found something intriguing. If anyone has any knowledge about the bill or any information about it I would be so interested to hear about it! Thank you in advance!

These were used in the Pacific/Hawaii during WWII. If the enemies were to able to seize these 'Hawaii' bills, the government could demonetized them. I would put a full retail value of around $150 on this one.. note looks like a problem-free VF note. Nice!

I'd say more like $125, but agree otherwise, very decent specimen and the scarcer of the two issues (there's also a 1934A).

Hawaii notes are fun notes and not really seen out of the collector market these days given that the purpose for their intended use is ~75 years old.

How did you come by this note?

At the store I work at I work in the cash office where I count the money from the cash registers. Normally we just put the money on a machine that counts the money but this $5 bill caught my eye as I was straightening the money and that is when I discovered it. So someone just spent this $5 as a normal $5. It makes me wonder if this was spent by mistake or if someone didn't notice what they had in their hand!

Welcome to CCF.

Most of us only dream of finding a $5 Emergency issue Hawaiian note in the wild...or any denomination Hawaiian note or N.African note for that matter. If I had to guess, I'd say it was not spent by the legitimate owner of the note.
