Ciao, what do you think of this uniface Half Dollar of 1962?
It seems a counterfeit piece to me: white metal, 29 mm - 6,81 g, smooth edge.
Roberto

Looks like a genuine half dollar that has had the reverse planed off.

The metal is definitely not silver.

Because of the weight and the sound, it doesn't sound like silver.
The thickness is like a normal coin and the diameter almost, but the weight is about half of the correct one, in the hand you feel the difference.

@robert, would you mind sharing with us the actual weight of this piece? Also, could you please post a pic of the edge? Thx.

I believe he already stated the weight, 6.81 g. But if the thickness is normal, then certainly a fake.

Ah yes sorry I missed that. I'm still interested in seeing the edge though.

I can't understand why one would make a one-sided counterfeit. I have to believe that this is a worn genuine half with the reverse and edge deliberately defaced. Doesn't it "ting" when you drop it?

The problem is the weight - only about half of a genuine silver half.
Rest in Peace

After enlarging and enhancing the edge pic, it kinda looks to me like I see a circumferential line. Could this be an Aluminum casting? If you have access to a SEM at a local university (or even a Precious Metal Analyzer at a local pawn shop), that might help us get closer to an answer.

If you look at the space in between "God We" and the bottom of the bust, it looks quite a bit off. Also look at the 'L' in Liberty. Also on the genuine half, he looks to be leaning forward more than the coin in question (where he looks much more up-right).
