Hey every body! Still looking, and with this one I'm not sure if what I'm seeing is really there, or if I should put down the magnifying glass and step away from the coins for a while... so here goes... I found this 1966 Washington quarter, that I assume is a p for lack of the mint mark. The front looks normal enough maybe some wear, but then I turn it over and with the eagle facing upward, I notice something around his right wing... not to mention all the things that are going on with the letter around the edge of the coin... so please enlighten me, or tell me I need a break, but is that the back of Washington's head I see?

Just a damage from a machine roll wrapper. It's not an error. It's 100% Post Strike Damage ( PSD) and only worth face value.

The marks on the lettering around the edge is machine wrapping/rolling damage.

However, the mark on the wing looks like a die clash.

Don't forget casino and vending machines. If it is incuse on a coin it is probably not a collectable.

The part that I am most focused on is the one by the wing. It looks to me like part of the obverse stamped completely through to the reverse. It is not in use. It is raised

I mentioned in my first reply that I thought that was a die clash, but now with the new pic and info, I'm 100% sure it is.

@Hardesty420, first welcome to CCF. Second, while I agree with @tanman, I think that the best way to confirm the presence of a die clash is to create an overlay of both sides of your coin and see if the details match up.

I should have put this in the last post:

http://www.maddieclashes.com/twenty...nt-overlays/

The mark matches the hair on the back of Washington's head in the overlay.

Lol! An overlay?!?!? You all speak as if you think I know what I'm doing ... let's just say we are lucky to get the pictures... however, I had thought of that already, I'm just not tech savvy, and couldn't figure out how to flip and flop Lincoln's head... thanks tho guys! I'm so glad I found this forum!! And I never dreamed I could have sooo much fun sorting through dirty old coins.

Looks like a die clash - matches up with Washington's head, as pointed out by Tanman.
