I was in a discussion this morning about Women on coins.
In the USA except for the new First Spouse Gold Coins This is the information I found from the US Mint

Quote:
Women on the Nation's Coins

With regard to the total number of real women ever portrayed on U.S. coins, our records show the following:

Circulating Coins:

* Helen Keller on the reverse of the Alabama quarter: 2003
* Sacagawea on the dollar coin: 1999-Present
* Susan B. Anthony on the dollar coin: 1979-1981

Commemorative Coins:

* Queen Isabella of Spain on the Columbian Exposition Quarter Dollar: 1893
* Eunice Kennedy Shriver Silver Dollar: 1995
* Virginia Dare, with her mother Eleonor Dare, on the Roanoke Island, North Carolina Half Dollar: 1937

Other than Queen Elizabeth, What other women have been on coins?

Pictures would also be nice for the rest of us.

Queen Victoria; in the Netherlands Queen Wilhelmina, Juliana, Beatrix..

it would be a long list if we'd try to consider world coins.

Well, all the other regnant queens have appeared on coinage of their various countries. For England / Great Britain, you've got Victoria, Anne, Mary I, Mary II and Elizabeth I. Other monarchies are much the same. The Netherlands has had queens on their coins since 1890 - three generations of royal women.

Perhaps the most famous coin-with-a-woman-on-it is the Maria Theresa thaler, from the Austro-Hungarian empire.

Going back further in time, while women generally didn't appear too much on mediaeval coins, they certainly take their fair share of ancient coins. Goddesses feature just as often, if not more often, then gods. Once portraits of rulers become fashionable in the Hellenistic period, queens appear on the coins wherever and whenever they reigned.

In Roman times, while women never ruled in their own right, the emperors often put family members on their coins - including their wives.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

In the Netherlands:

Women-On-Coins
Wilhelmina (1890-1948), last portrait, used in 1948.

Women-On-Coins
Juliana (1948-1980)

Women-On-Coins
Beatrix (1980-date)

There also was a coin that portrayed 4 queens (the three mentioned above and Queen Emma, who was the regent during the first years of Wilhelmina's reign).

Here's a German coin from Mecklemburg-Schwerin (1904) featuring Alexandra who was a "Grossherzogin" (Grand Duchess) of this German state.

World coins offer a lot of choices. Can't forget all the lovely images of Brittania, Liberty and her sisters on coins from Great Britain, France and colonies, and the US. These are some of my favourites. :)

Women-On-Coins

This coin is a silver 25 Gourdes Commem from Haiti, and is one of my favourite coins.

Women-On-Coins

This 1933 Guinea 5 centavo coin is also really lovely; the design is also on coins from Portugual, Cape Verde, Argentina, etc. for this time period.

Women-On-Coins

San Marino 1973 500 Lira, silver.

Women-On-Coins

Romania, 1912 2 Lei

Women-On-Coins

Iceland, 1974 500 Kronur

Women-On-Coins

Greece, 1960 20 Drachmas silver.

Women-On-Coins

If we were to include the allegorical (or whatever the word) images of Liberty etc., I'd have to add some coins to my Polish list. That would include ~

Women-On-Coins
-> 1 and 2 zl (series 1924-25) called "Girl with ears of corn",

Women-On-Coins
-> 2, 5, and 10 zl (series 1932-34) called "Woman's head" . There also was a pattern for a 1 zl like this.

-> 5 zl Nike (series 1928-32),

-> "50" pre-war pattern coin with a girl.

Voilŕ, women (real or allegorical) from current euro coins. Circulation pieces only - adding collector coins would have made the list pretty long.

1/2/5 ct FR (Marianne) Women-On-Coins

2 ct SM (Statue of Liberty) Women-On-Coins

10 ct IT (Botticelli's Venus) Women-On-Coins

10/20/50 ct FR (Semeuse - Sower) Women-On-Coins

€2 GR (Europa on the bull/Zeus) Women-On-Coins

€2 AT (Bertha von Suttner) Women-On-Coins
