I'm not seeing anything I'd calllamination. Some discoloration on obverse.

I'd say strike through oil or grease, I've got several Sth Dakota ones with evidence of similar strike through.

Thanks for the responses.

I'm still not sure what this is.

Here are new pictures taken from the side Is this Struck Through Grease or lamination?

The metal appears to be scrapped beginning on the back of the bird and then continuing through the "State Of Idaho" on the Reverse plus between the two Latin words and also under the bird's lower beak. The Obverse is also scrapped out in front of the portrait of Washington.

Chuckster, laminations look like the surface is peeling and you will see cracks in the surface of the coin with flakes peeling up. The difference you see in surface texture is something I see alot. I think this is caused by grease on the dies like everyone above stated. I see this alot on newer nickels as I roll search.

No flakes showing- must be Struck Through Grease etc as mentioned above.

It is Struck Through Grease or a thin lubricant.

Thanks,

I have noticed this on several of the Idaho SQ's. It looks to be a light struck thru of some kind as mentioned above.
