1980-D Dime- Toning? Plating Issue?

Hello. I've had this coin for some time which is why it's in a mylar, and I thought it was toning on the coin and not copper showing through up until now. It could still be toning but I wanted to make sure it wasn't something else. Thank you for your time.

Looks like some type of chemical that was left on the coin too long and left a permanent stain.

Depending if the edge where the copper color is starting, if it is a step down, then it might be cladding either that fell off or wasn't there during the strike. A closer view would tell us more. In the 2X2 the glare hides the actual coin.

I removed it from the 2x2 and found it was rainbow colored more than it is copper like. So I threw it back. Thanks for your input coop. I'll most likely be back with more questions.
