Hi all,
I'm mostly a hunter of internet information, but now I'd like to get an actual paper book. My interest is in milled silver and copper, and I've read numerous posts about Coincraft and Spink as likely the better works for me. However, not living anywhere near a book shop that carries Spink (and certainly not Coincraft!), I wonder if anyone that has both would be kind enough to scan a page from each dealing with the same coin (denomination and monarch). I read somewhere that Coincraft's photos are of poorer quality, and I'd love to look at both boooks before buying one.
Many thanks!

https://www.amazon.com/Collectors-C...s+collectors

The two books you mention may not be suitable and are just pictures with appoximate values.Loads on Amazon though ,but the best ones will be found seperately.Such as Freeman ,gouby etc for pennies

Coincraft & Spink are both good though different. If I were to rely on only one, it would be Coincraft... it tends to have more information.

The Coincraft book is large.. A4 sized... It is also not current but if you are looking for pre-decimal issues then that is not a concern.

I see you are in Canada. The good news is that there are a large number of Coincraft books for sale on Amazon.ca. Give them a look. Used they will be cheaper than a new Spink.

Just to specify that I'm not interested in coin values in the book, but more information and good photos/descriptions of major varieties such as different effigies etc. Thanks.

Unless you purchased a Peck (copper & bronze ) of which the postage would be sky high to find comprehensive studies would mean purchasing different books.

Such as Davies for silver and Freeman for bronze.

Maybe best to just focus on one type of coin at first with regards varieties as to try to read about all of them may blow your mind.
You can then take it as far as you wish to go.
As an example the English grading company have done over SEVENTY different varieties of just the 1860 penny.

https://www.bookdepository.com/Bron...780948964848 is good for bronze.
https://www.amazon.com/English-Silv...p/1907427503 is good for silver coins (though it isn't as in-depth with the varieties as Freeman's book).
