For example I own an 1865 2 cent piece slabbed G-6. Maybe they were going for lowball and came up high? Probably silly but the few bucks spent, well, I've wastes more on worse.

I also want a bicentennial quarter close to 70 some day, a sentimental thing with my mom, she has always kept them as long as I can remember. Gotta have a coffee can or two somewhere by now...

Glad you brought this up.
I have had this coin for about 2 years. It serves the purpose to remind me not to be stupid again.
For those who don't realize, a PR70 DCAM sells on ebay for only $30. A PR68 not so much.....

I definitely have a few that cost more to get graded than they are worth, but I didn't pay to have them slabbed.

Here's one I got for well below Price Guide:

Since I'm not a big fan of slabs, the only kind I have were "Silly Cheap". Paid $58 ($8.29 each) for these.

Here's one I got slabbed last year because I thought it was a Type II. Guess my eyes aren't that good... At least it didn't cost me much during one of the ANACS specials.

This one was a head-scratcher.

Cost to slab: probably over 20 bucks at NGC

Price I paid: $8 (with free shipping!!)

Funny thing is, it's actually undergraded -- much closer to a G6 -- making it even more of an oddball. It's not even a key date or semi-key date!

I don't think it gets much sillier than this one. I actually had this one submitted myself, because I THOUGHT I found doubling on the reverse. I got it back with a note stating the "doubling" was from die wear......ah well, live and learn.

That's a good example, AcesKings. Ever thought of cracking it out to spend it?

The holder is much more valuable than the coin ;)

No I haven't. I guess I just keep it around as a reminder I was a newbee at one time too.

A few years ago I actually got offered $5 for it from someone who collects the original ANA holders. I said I'd send it to them for the cost of shipping. But, I'd never shipped anything, so kept asking the best way to ship. I guess they got tired of my questions and just stopped asking about it.

I must be truly an oddball out here.

I've never submitted, and I own only 3 slabbed coins.
