Does anyone know if more examples of the 1958 DDO cent have been discovered yet? The authors of the CherryPickers Guide say they believe this variety have never reached general circulation, so I am curious as to how/where these were ever discovered in the first place?

To the best of my knowledge the total known population remains at two.

desertgem,

I suspect that a legitimate one would most likely be sold through a major auction house f another one turned up.

On the outside chance it's a real one, which I doubt, it should go for a lot more than that.

I am going to try to find it and see if the pictures show anything useful. The odds are that it is another misidentified coin with Machine Doubling.

Also, there are lesser known die varieties on the 1958 cent as well as 1958 D cents.

maybe you could point us to the listing.

Thanks,
Bill

I checked it out, ....If that is anything at all, it's one of the minor DDOs. Here is what the "big one" looks like. Note LIBERTY
http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/...dDieCent.htm

If this is the guy that has $60,000 written on the 2X2 , everything about his listing is deceptive. In his defense though, if you read the Questions to sellers portion, he says he was made aware of the error and just hasn't taken the sale down yet.

It only takes a few seconds to remove a listing so I am not sure what he is waiting for. In any case. It isn't what it is advertised to be.

Thanks,
Bill

Only two examples of the 1958 DDO are known to exist, both are mint state, and both are worth in excess of $100,000. Anyone claiming to have one of those on ebay has a large imagination to go with their likely normal 1958 cent.

Foundinrolls,

Sorry I didn't give the listing rather than have you dig for it. It had just popped up on my ebay search program under double die and then coincidentally I read your posting. Later I checked my CP guide and noticed that it didn't come close in the spread and dismissed it from mind, Not that I had the money to bid on it even if it was real

desertgem,

No problem. There was actually no digging at all:-) My brain works like a search engine:-) so it took only seconds to pull it up on ebay:-)

Have Fun,
Bill
