I wonder how to grade this 1864 2-cent coin. I got in a batch auction and my heart sank when I saw the hole which is bad enough, but the hole runs right through the date! The 2-cent coin is one of my favorite designs, but I'm not sure what to do with this one. I guess someone wore it as jewelry, but does it have any numismatic value?

xf details. there are people who collect these but coins with this level of damage sell at a deep discount. This is the large motto, so the more common variety. other than the hole, it is a nice coin.

Quote: just a hole filler You need a hole filler-then there would not be a hole, but a whole coin.

Based on the feedback it sounds like my "holy" coin is worth exactly Two Cents. Maybe I'll just try to spend it...

It's definitely not worth face value. It will just sell at a large discount compared to a similar coin without a hole.

A local coin dealer offers coins like this in a "junk" box. Since this coin despite the hole has nice detail it might be worth $5 plus or minus a bit to a not so picky collector.
