Hello Everyone, I am new to buying gold coins, and recently purchased my first Gold Buffalo coins. I purchased the coins from a reputable online seller so I am sure they are authentic. Even though I did not question their authenticity, I still measured the weight, thickness, ping, and specific gravity of each coin. All of the measurements checked out except for the thickness test. Gold Buffalo coins should have a thickness of 2.95mm but the coins I received measured 3.15mm on one side and 2.65mm on the other side. As I looked closer at some of the coins I could see the impression on the coin was not centered. In the pictures you can see the top edge of the coin is thinner behind the back of head than on the opposite side near the bottom of the neck. In some spots where the edge is thick, part of the reeded edge has started to fold over the coin. I this normal? Should I consider returning these?

A very slightly mis-aligned die (MAD). Not unusual, no premium or discount. to the CCF!

If anything, it would be less desirable to a collector, but since it's basically a buillion coin probably doesn't matter.

As such it is not held to a strict tolerance. Had you posted the images for comment I would not have noticed this slight misalignment. No need to return the coins IMO.

Not far enough off center to have a premium.

By not much. I don't think the Mint cares too much about this sort of very minor, but very common error.
An otherwise well made coin.
A little disappointing. But only slightly disappointing. Perhaps that is why the Mint doesn't care too much.

Quote: As such it is not held to a strict tolerance. Except for the blanks, because it doesn't take much variation in blank thickness to throw off the weight. But the thickness of the planchets and finished coins can vary considerably.

to CCF. And for a bullion coin I would not worry at all. Is a beautiful example!
