I am considering purchase of some better date 20th century gold MS graded by PCI (green label). Any experiences with how they tend to cross over to NGC or PCGS would be appreciated. Thank You.

Let me be more specific. I am looking at a $2.50 Indian in a green PCI MS-64 holder. Don't have a pic to post, but having said that, any suggestions on a "fair" price to pay? I'm thinking somewhere between 61 and 62 money.

I haven't tried it with PCI gold. I have a common half eagle in green PCI graded AU-50 and it looks perhaps a bit undergraded. However, it's value does not justify paying to cross it to any AU grade. I also have an 1839-O quarter eagle in a green PCI VF-35 holder. This coin I think has too many hairlines to straight-grade at PCGS or NGC so I'm not putting crossover money into that coin either.

I had a 1922 Peace dollar in green PCI MS-65 which I did think was fairly graded. I cracked that one out and PCGS did grade it MS-65. Bottom line to me is to decide if the coin has a realistic shot of making a specific grade. Then, I would crack it out and submit as a raw coin.

Most Indian quarter eagles in grades from AU-55 to MS-62 are usually priced in a pretty narrow range. If the coin under consideration is a problem-free contender for MS-64 it's probably worth paying MS-62 money for it. Good luck!

How much premium over spot gold price for the gold coin you are considering to purchase?

How many are graded MS63 and 64 at the two major TPGs?
