Your coin shows circulation wear, which probably caused the initials to wear away. On a perfect coin, you should be able to see all the vertical wires on both ends of the bridge, but you are missing the last 4-5 on the end at the right.

There is actually a chunck of metal on the bridges right side, doesn't really show on the scan..

Sorry to bother you again but notice the top of the sail, on my coin it touches the H letter,
on the image you have provided it does not.

If talking about the marks on the sail just a little below the S in State, looks like it took a hit not letters.

@ak, when I enlarge and enhance your pics, it is still a little hard to tell whether the details are simply worn together or if there might have been a small die chip bridging that gap or if some early damage moved metal between the letter H and the uppermost point of the mast:
