Samanids, Nuh II b. Nasr, 943-954, AR dirham, Samarqand mint, dated AH 336. Samanid coins sometimes turn up in northern and eastern Europe via Viking trade routes.
There was an important Viking trade emporium at Truso near Gdansk. Rivers like the Vistula and the Bug helped connect the Baltic Sea with the Silk Road and the mints of the Samanids, who were prolific minters of silver.
