I know what a planchet is but what is split on a split planchet? Again, I hope I am not being bothersome with so many questions about terms.

Also, there is no such thing as too many questions. Keep firing away. That's how we all have learned or are learning.

Cool, didn't realize there were coins like this. The only thing with the planchet I have come across is a "Cracked" planchet.

For those who want to learn a little about that: http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...PIC_ID=19801

There are also two different forms of split planchet...those that split before the coin is struck, and those that split after.

Coins split before the strike are more scarce, but neither is especially rare. I have a 1957 cent that split before the strike that I will photograph for this thread if I get time to do it.

Hi Chuck,

It would be great if you did post a picture so folks here could see what one looks like on a cent.

I don't have any examples of split planchets. :-(

Thanks,
Bill
