*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***hey all, Check it out. I just bought this 1864 with "L" Indian Head cent but I am having a hard time grading it. The obverse seems High AU or low MS but the revers (The shield) seems EF at best. thoughts?

I'd be between high EF to low AU. Straight grade. Nice coin! !

I think EF/XF (whatever you prefer) seems right.

The coin as a whole is in EF condition and no problems . When there's the slightest wear on a coin it can't possibly be MS .

The toning bothers me. A TPG may think it's too dark; surface problems might be hidden. If you can get pass that then I think low AU is about right.

Thank You all! Now I'm going to flip the script on you. I didn't want to ask this in the original poster because when someone says "Counterfeit" people start finding problems.
so, do you think this is a counterfeit?
I have my reservations since purchasing but it seems very convincing. What I can tell you is that the weight is right and the slightly porous look is not raised but rather into the coin, which to me signify environmental damage.
I do not plan on submitting for certification due to the environmental damage but I don't want to sell it RAW to an unknowing collector if it is fake.
thank you again for your help on the grade!

This one looks counterfeit. Mushy details, grainy looking, and color is typical of what is coming from China right now.
Look at the lettering around the rim.

It is convincing looking for sure. It's out of my wheelhouse as well, other than to say it has EF-45 or better sharpness.

Quote: Whats that dot over the third feather? can we get better pics of 1 oclock its a residue of some kind. I noticed it to and thought it might be a raised area on the coin but it is not a part of the coin. looks to be glue or some similar shiny residue. GOOD EYE!

If fake, it's pretty convincing. I'd send it to be graded to confirm if fake or authentic.
