Bought a super good error/variety lot today. But one of the rarest ones in there is not exactly in great shape. At least AU details but... Just wondering if anyone has been able to save a zinc coin like this before.

Sweet coin! I'm assuming the ear is doubled? Gonna make look through my can again aren't you lol . Didn't know about this one. Plating looks intact, you concerned about the spot ?

Yes, the plating is mostly intact. It's the big goob above the date that most concerns me as surely it will eat a big hole soon enough. And lots of spots with minor corrosion that aren't bad right now but also likely not to improve over time. The staining doesn't bother me at all, it's the corrosion I am concerned about.

And yes it is the ear that is doubled.

I have looked through countless 1983 D's searching for that one. That is an awesome find! Congratulations on that one my friend! I have used a mixture of white vinegar and salt only on the shield cents to help get rid of or tamper down dark spots with the aid of a soft tooth brush and only about five seconds on both sides. That works pretty well. Not sure if I would do that to this cent though.

Nice find tropicalbats! It's still a good find, despite being in rough shape.
