I have a 1$ Eisenhower Bicentennial coin from 1976.
I did some research on the coin and it says the Philadelphia minted coins have no mint mark or should have no mint mark. The one that I have has a P mint mark but it is very faint and I cant bring it out with the camera or scanner even at 2400 dpi. So does anyone have an idea if this is normal or is it some sort of variety coin?

I do not see a mint mark. It looks like a normal Eisenhower dollar to me.

A lovely one, of course, because I am biased!

There is no P mint mark. Your eyes are playing tricks on you. Scanned images especially can create artifacts in the details. This is a plain 1976-P Type 2 reverse Eisenhower dollar.

It is probably an example of Pareidolia, random hits and nicks that happen to look like something. Philadelphia never used mint marks on Ikes. They do not put mint marks on their dollars until the 1979-P SBA.

There's no mint mark, sorry. Give it up. But keep looking!

ak0017 - we're not trying to be hard on you. It's just simply that we KNOW there isn't a mint mark present. If there were, then it would certainly be a fantasy forgery, and who would go through the trouble for this coin? Uh oh.... someone's gonna mention Daniel Carr. LOL.

I did a couple of things in photoshop to bring out the details better. It looks as though there is a hit present in the mint mark area.

Auto contrast:

Increased brightness:

Hope this helps, and thanks for posting. I always like to discuss Ike dollars, even the impossible ones.
