Note the EPU devices? They are incuse. When you see doubling on them it is Machine Doubling. On a real doubled die on incuse devices they get smaller:

The lighting on your coin is showing a double light source. What does that mean? The devices will reflect on both sides of the coin. A single light source if the only way to get light and shadows. It makes it look like something is there when there really isn't. Check out my new thread on lighting:

Coop you nailed it. Many times I have seen very distinct doubling only to discover ambient light source was the cause.
